Agora para saboriar:

A Verdade Apanha-se com Enganos:

In praise of good things

March 16, 2008

I would like to take this opportunity to praise one of the noblest of human kind’s inventions. Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to sing out loud the glories of the omelet.

1611, from Fr. omelette (16c.), metathesis of alemette (14c.), from alemelle “blade of a knife or sword,” probably a misdivision of la lemelle (mistaken as l’alemelle), from L. lamella “thin, small plate,” dim. of lamina “plate, layer.” The food so called from its flat shape. The proverb “you can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs” (1859) translates Fr. On ne saurait faire une omelette sans casser des oeufs.

The omelet, if you are unaware, is a succulent egg and anything dish that can make or break your day. One good omelet on a rainy day is as useful as an umbrella. Although analogies can be made about the usefulness of an omelet, nothing compares to its deliciousness.

This is why, henceforth, I declare March 16th the unofficial Day of the Omelet.

All praise the mighty omelet.

Personal favourite omelet:

Parsley, 3 eggs, a splash of milk and onion.

As simple as it is great.
